ABOUT THE YOGA
How can yoga help someone in recovery?
After extended periods of time of abusing ourselves through drugs or alcohol, we become very disconnected from our bodies. Disconnection from our bodies can leave us more vulnerable to relapse as we can miss signs of anxiety, fatigue, anger or other “trigger” emotions.
Yoga allows us to reconnect with our bodies, and the focus on breathing leads us into a natural meditative state, which is a vital component of successful and sustainable sobriety. Stretching and moving our bodies also gives us natural boosts of serotonin and dopamine, which are helpful in managing our emotions during early recovery and give us feelings of hope and optimism for the future.
